The Ogun State Governor,Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief (Mrs.) Adenike Ebun Oyagbola, the first female minister of cabinet rank in Nigeria, who died on Friday at the age of 94.
In a condolence message on Saturday, in Abeokuta,Governor Abiodun described the late politician as a trailblazer whose life embodied shrewdness, courage, humility, and an unwavering commitment to public service.
He praised Chief Oyagbola’s legacy as the Iyalode of Yewaland, noting that her contributions to the political landscape had paved the way for future generations of African women to pursue gender equality and active political engagement.
Governor Abiodun extended his heartfelt prayers for the repose of her soul and for the strength and fortitude of her family in this difficult time.
Oyagbola joined the Federal Civil Service in 1963 after completing her studies in England, United Kingdom. In December 1979, she became Nigeria’s first female cabinet minister after she was appointed Minister of National Planning under the Shehu Shagari-led administration, a position she held until October 1983, according to Google.
