In a groundbreaking move aimed at alleviating the suffering of its citizens, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, the Sokoto State Government has signed a landmark agreement with the Union of Commodity Dealers to significantly reduce the prices of food and other essential commodities across the state.
The agreement was formally signed by Commissioner Ministry for Local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Dadi Adare, representing the state government, while the chairmen of various groups of commodity dealers, represented the Unions.This historic event marks a significant milestone in the state government’s efforts to empower communities and promote economic growth.
The signing of the agreement was conducted at the Government House in Sokoto and witnessed by several dignitaries, including the Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Nasir Muhammad Binji, and some Local Government Council Chairmen, among others.
Alhaji Chuso Abdullahi Dattijo, the chairman of the committee and former deputy governor of Sokoto State, explained that the idea was conceived to help alleviate the suffering of the masses, particularly during the month of Ramadan. He noted that the activity was part of the numerous programs put in place by the government to ensure that citizens can break their fast with ease and convenience.
Under the arrangement, the state government will provide financial support to these groups which will serve as a subsidy to enable them to reduce the cost of their commodities. This subsidy will be used to offset the costs of essential commodities, thereby making them more affordable for the people.
“This initiative is a testament to the state government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens,” Alhaji Dattijo emphasized. “By partnering with local dealers, we aim to create a positive impact on the state’s economy and improve the overall well-being of our citizens. We believe that this agreement will not only provide relief to the people but also stimulate economic growth and development in the state.”
In his remarks,Alhaji Aminu Haliru Dikko, Chief of Staff Government House Sokoto, representing the Secretary to the State Government,Alhaji Bello Muhammad Sifawa,emphasized that the initiative is very dear to Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s heart. “This collaboration and subsequent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Union of Commodity Dealers demonstrate our government’s dedication to the people’s welfare,” he stated.
“The government is committed to ensuring that the agreement is implemented effectively to benefit the citizens of Sokoto State,” Mr. Dikko added. “We will work closely with the Union of Commodity Dealers to monitor the prices of essential commodities and ensure that they are sold at affordable rates to the people.”
Alhaji Muktari Aliyu Yabo, speaking on behalf of the Union of Commodity Dealers and vendors hailed the government’s initiative, expressing his heartfelt appreciation for the efforts to alleviate the suffering of the masses. “We are grateful for this partnership, which will enable us to provide essential commodities at affordable prices to the people of Sokoto State,” he said.
“We are committed to working with the government to ensure that the prices of essential commodities are reduced and made affordable to the people,” Alhaji Yabo added. “We believe that this partnership will not only benefit our members but also the entire community.”
Sheik Amadu Helele, in his brief lecture, urged the leaders and members of the group to fear Allah in all their dealings, emphasizing the importance of integrity and accountability in their actions. “As we embark on this noble endeavor, let us remember to conduct ourselves with honesty, transparency, and compassion,” he advised.
“The holy month of Ramadan is a time for reflection, prayer, and charity,” Sheik Helele said. “Let us use this opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of our fellow citizens and to promote peace, harmony, and understanding in our community.”
The move is expected to provide significant relief to the community during the sacred month of Ramadan, and the government is committed to ensuring that the agreement is implemented effectively to benefit the citizens of Sokoto State.
