The Vice Chancellor, Confluence University of Science and Technology,CUSTECH, Osara, Prof Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu,has expressed the commitment of the university to strive for academic excellence, respect and celebrate diversity, develop a sense of social responsibility and embrace challenges and learn from failures.
The Vice Chancellor gave the commitments on Wednesday in Osara in his address at the 5th matriculation for fresh students of the institution.
He said that as one of the rapidly expanding young universities in Nigeria, CUSTECH is devoted to providing its students with the necessary resources, support,and guidance to thrive academically, personally and professionally.
“Our staff is available to mentor and inspire you, encouraging you to challenge yourself potential and achieve your utmost potential.However,the responsibility for your success ultimately rests with you, he told the new students.
The vice Chancellor advised the students to embrace every opportunity that raises,and always recognize the significance of hard work, commitment,and resilience.
He reminded the students that matriculation signifies not only the commencement of their endeavors but also represents a dedication to learning,personal growth,and pursuit of excellence.
Prof.Salawu, hinted that the students would encounter fresh ideas,diverse perspectives and experience that would influence their understanding of the world and their role in life but called on them to approach these opportunities with an open mind and readiness to engage in. thoughtful dialogue.
“Strive to think critically, question established assumptions and seek knowledge not merely for its own sake. but for the enhancement of themselves and society,” he advised.
The vice Chancellor urged the new students to keep in mind the significance of integrity by familiarizing themselves with the principles of academic engagement as outlined in the statues and regulations of the university .
He assured the students of the commitment of CUSTECH the instill in them, a spirit of objective extends beyond merely providing them with an education.
Prof.Salawu said:” We aim to instill in you a spirit of intellectual inquiry, curiosity and resilience while also ensuring that you uphold moral integrity.This underscores the fact that character is a fundamental requirement for graduation. Consequently, you must resist the allure of misusing the new found freedoms that accompany campus life. You must avoid all forms Of social vices, including cultism, inappropriate attire, examination misconduct, sexual impropriety, fraudulent activities and any other antisocial behaviors that could jeopardize your future.”
Upon admission to the university, the Vice Chancellor revealed that the institution received a total of 3,446 applications.
Of these, 2,396 admissions were offered, with 2,236 having been accepted so far, adding that the remaining 160 admissions have been approved but have not yet been accepted.
The Vice Chancellor added that the university extended offers to students from 24 states across the federation.
