The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Niger state chapter has begun the campaign against all forms Of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and other related activities, with a solicit on the State Chief Judge for the support.
The State Chairperson of the organization, Barr.Bolanle Jibogun,made the plea when the state Chief Judge, Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik granted the audience to the new state FIDA leadership in her office in Minna.
Jibogun told the Chief Judge that the new state leadership of FIDA is planning to embark on a sensitization campaign on gender based violence against not only the girl-child, but also women or mothers and the vulnerable.
She also informed the Chief Judge about plans by members of the state branch of FIDA to host the national programmes and as their ‘Grand Patron’, adding that they were in her office to seek for her blessings and support towards successful hosting of the event.
Jibogun, who commended the Chief Judge for making a positive difference since her assumption of office, pledged the support of FIDA in creating awareness and sensitizing women, the girl-child and mothers on the need not to die in silence but always raise their voices against all gender based violence.
Receiving the delegation, the state Chief Judge, promised to support the newly constituted FIDA leadership in efforts to protect the rights of the girl-child, their mothers, women/ladies among others.
Apart from expressing support for FIDA members in their fight against all forms of gender-based violence, Justice Halima also encouraged them to always stand up for women/ladies facing any form of rights infringements across the state.
The Chief Judge told her guests that as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and a professional organization, FIDA, ‘needs her support to enable it carry out its good works in protecting the rights of the girl-child from childhood to adulthood’.
The Chief Judge also told the state FIDA leadership that Niger state has been in the forefront in the creation of awareness on the rights of the girl-child, women and as well the vulnerable in the society on the importance of respecting their rights and guiding against all acts of domestic violence.
While congratulating the new leadership for their successful election,the chief judge urged them to carry every member along in order to move the branch forward.
