Leaders from opposition parties, in kogi state, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the All Democratic Congress (ADC), have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in a significant political shift in the state.

The defectors cited the “outstanding performance” of Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and his “inclusive, detribalized approach” as key factors determining their decision.

At a highly attended decamping event held at the Government House in Lokoja on Saturday, Hon. Ganiyu Salaudeen (Erukutu), former Member of the State House of Assembly and leader of the defectors, expressed their desire to join forces with the APC.

“We are here today to affirm our commitment to progress and development. The Governor’s efforts are evident, and we cannot remain in the opposition while Kogi moves forward. Our priority is to see this state prosper,” he remarked, addressing the gathering.

Prominent political figures who also defected include Engr. Adegbayo Kayode, Commodore Folusho Daniel (Rtd), and Hon. Tolorunju Faniyi. They all highlighted the Governor’s “exceptional leadership,” which they said has made it difficult for opposition parties to gain any significant traction in the state.

Hon. Abdullahi Bello, the State APC Chairman, welcomed the new members, assuring them that the APC would provide an environment of fairness, justice, and equitable treatment for all party members, regardless of their political backgrounds.

Governor Ododo, in his address, thanked the defectors for their support, emphasizing that his administration would continue to focus on serving the people with transparency, humility, and honor.

He called on the people of Kogi State to abandon politics of bitterness and unite for the overall development of the state.

The Governor also urged citizens to leverage the state’s rich mineral resources, reinforcing the importance of working together to enhance Kogi’s economic prospects.

He reiterated his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and encouraged all Kogi residents to back national efforts for progress.
