The hunters’ group in Yagba West Local Government has successfully rescued Mr. Adekunle Raphael Ola, a kidnapping victim, from a criminal hideout and cleared the den of suspected kidnappers in a daring operation.
Our correspondent recalls that Mr. Ola, a resident of Iyara in Ijumu Local Government Area, was abducted on January 15 around 8:00 p.m.
Sources disclosed that armed with AK-47 rifles, the kidnappers stormed his compound, assaulted him and his wife, demanded money, and forcefully took him away.
But acting on intelligence, the local hunters, under the coordination of Yagba West Executive Chairman Hon. Tosin Olokun, raided the kidnappers’ hideout in the early hours of January 20.
The operation not only led to Mr. Ola’s safe rescue but also dismantling of the hideout, a notorious base for criminal activities in the area.
Hon. Olokun praised the bravery and dedication of the hunters.
“Their swift and coordinated efforts are yielding positive results in combating crime. This operation restores hope in grassroots security systems and underscores the power of local collaboration,”he remarked.
After receiving medical care, Mr. Ola was formally handed over to the Executive Chairman of Ijumu Local Government by Hon. Oluwafemi Victor Adeyeye, Yagba West Supervisor for Education and Special Duties.
Describing his ordeal as dehumanizing, Mr. Ola expressed gratitude to the hunters and authorities for their intervention.
Yagba West Local Government Council reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with security agencies, hunters, and vigilante groups to ensure the safety and security of residents and travelers in the region.
