The Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTEC) in Osara, Kogi State, has continued to receive commendation for its steady progress in infrastructure development and academic expansion.
Parents, guardians, and new students, who spoke with the correspondent of The Reporters in Osara on Monday expressed satisfaction with the rapid growth of the university, particularly the introduction of new courses such as Medicine and Surgery, as well as Nursing Science.
Our correspondent at the premises of the university reports that new students were seen engaging in documentation and verification processes in preparation for the commencement of their academic programmes.
Many parents and guardians ,who accompanied their children and wards to the university for documentation of their courses, in their separate chats with The Reporters,expressed delight at the opportunity the university gave to their children to study competitive courses like Medicine and Surgery as a young institution
This development they described a as rare in the Nigerian educational landscape for a university established five years ago.
Commending the vision behind CUSTECH, the parents attributed the establishment of the university to the forward-thinking leadership of former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello.
They also applauded the current administration, led by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, for its unwavering support and commitment to fostering the growth of both CUSTECH and the state university in Kabba, positioning them as emerging stars in Nigeria’s educational sector.
According to them,the progress so far recorded by the two universities reflects a strong commitment of the present administration in the state to providing quality education and expanding access to critical fields of study,a development they hope promise a bright future for students beyond Kogi State.
The parents expressed optimism that with the conversion of the Okene Reference hospital, Okene, to a teaching hospital would boost efforts CUSTECH in producing medical doctors other health graduates whose expertise would help the health sector of the state and Nigeria at large to grow tremendously.
Many parents, however, have urged the authorities at CUSTECH to reconsider the high school fees, given the current economic challenges and the financial strain these costs have placed on their families.
Some parents who disclosed that some of them have declined sponsoring their children admitted for various at the university, begged the university authorities to allow them installment in paying such fees to enable such children accomplish their educational desire.
Some parents, who traveled from Lagos, Abuja, and other states to Osara ,in pursuit of admission for their children, also expressed surprise at the requirement for tax clearance as part of the documentation process. They pointed out that this condition was not mentioned in the admission letters provided to their children.
They have requested that their children’s admissions be processed without delay, assuring that they will promptly present the necessary tax clearance certificates.
Our correspondent reports that while some buildings ,such as class rooms and administrative blocks at the university,among other structures have been completed, furnished to taste, and occupied,works on other buildings continued.
The staff were also seen doing their best to address verification and documentation of courses for the new students to start lectures soon with courtesy.
