Former Kogi Governor Idris Wada, Others Set to Join APC in Major Defection Rally Monday

A major political realignment is set to take place in Kogi State as former Governor, Capt. Idris Ichalla Wada, and other prominent members of various opposition parties are expected to officially decamp to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, November 17, 2025.
According to an invitation issued by the APC State Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Bello (Dollar), the high-profile decamping ceremony will be held at the Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja, the state capital, beginning at 10 a.m. prompt.
The event is expected to attract top political figures, party stalwarts, and supporters from across the state, marking what observers describe as one of the most significant defections in recent years.
“All dignitaries and party faithful are expected to be seated before the arrival of the National Chairman of our great party,” the statement added.
Political analysts say the defection of Capt. Wada, who governed Kogi State from 2012 to 2016 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), could reshape the political landscape ahead of future elections.
The planned ceremony is coming at a time when the APC in Kogi State is intensifying efforts to consolidate its strength and expand its base across the three senatorial districts.
Party supporters are optimistic that the development will further unify the ruling party and strengthen its grip on power in the state.
Our correspondent recalls that the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf,on Wednesday ,announced during plenary that Hon. Bode Ogunmola, member representing Ogori/Magongo State Constituency, and Hon. Sunday Daku, representing Bassa State Constituency—both of the Peoples Democratic Party,had defected to the APC.
He added that the two lawmakers cited the crisis rocking the PDP and said they had no choice but to join the APC, whose governor, they noted, is performing creditably and enjoys the support of the citizens.
