A chilling crime unfolded in Anambra State on Tuesday night as Hon. Justice Azuka, a member representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, was abducted at gunpoint.
The lawmaker, a chieftain of the Labour Party who recently reclaimed his mandate through a court ruling, was intercepted and forcefully taken by unknown gunmen on Ugwunaobankpa Road, Inland Town, Onitsha. Witnesses reported that the operation lasted less than five minutes, leaving residents in shock and fear.
A close associate of the lawmaker, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that Azuka’s whereabouts remain unknown, and his abductors have yet to contact his family or associates. The abduction has left many residents shaken, as Hon. Azuka was known for being a grassroots politician who maintained close ties with his constituents.
Reacting to the incident, the spokesman for the Police Command in the state,SPS. Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the kidnapping and assured the public that efforts were underway to rescue the lawmaker and apprehend the perpetrators.
“The Command has activated operational plans to ensure his safe rescue. Investigations are ongoing, and we are working on some promising leads,” Ikenga stated.
Residents have appealed for the immediate release of the lawmaker, describing him as a peaceful and approachable leader.
Meanwhile, the police have urged the public to remain calm , adding that they have intensified efforts to bring the culprits to justice.
