The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has launched a massive security operation to safeguard lives and property during the festive season, deploying 2,500 officers across the state to combat criminal activity.
In a statement released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC 1 Ayoola Michael Shola, the NSCDC announced the deployment of officers from specialized units, including the Armed Squad, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and Anti-Vandal Unit. These teams will focus on key locations such as recreational centers, markets, and critical government infrastructure to prevent criminal acts.
Commandant Dr. Umar J.G. Muhammed sounded a warning to criminals, particularly vandals targeting essential infrastructure. “Let me assure the good people of Kwara State of our resolve to maintain peace. We will deal decisively with any individual or group attempting to disrupt public order,” he declared.
The NSCDC highlighted the severe consequences for acts of vandalism, with offenders facing a 21-year prison sentence without the option of a fine.
To ensure airtight security, undercover operatives will conduct 24-hour surveillance and intelligence gathering. The Corps will also work closely with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to respond swiftly to threats.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. As the holidays approach, the Commandant reassured citizens of a peaceful celebration and extended his season’s greetings to the people of Kwara State.
This bold operation underscores the NSCDC’s commitment to tackling crime and protecting public safety during the festive season.
