A gas leak has been reported in Fugar Community, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, on Saturday evening. The incident occurred along the pipeline near the General Abdulsalam Abubakar General Hospital, across from the High Court in Fugar.

Hon. Solomon Obomighie, the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, responded quickly to the situation, notifying the relevant agencies to ensure the safety of the community.

In response, local authorities have mobilized traditional rulers from the Fugar clan, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Etsako Central Works Department, Nigeria Police, and local vigilantes to manage the situation. Their collective efforts are aimed at protecting the residents and preventing any potential dangers from the gas leak.

Residents in the affected area have been advised to avoid using mobile phones and electronic devices, while pedestrians should use alternative routes to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks.

“The joint efforts of all stakeholders are crucial to safeguarding the community’s well-being,” said a local government spokesman. “We are continuously monitoring the situation to manage potential hazards effectively.”

Local Government spokesman, Anthony Igbanor, confirmed that authorities are currently on-site assessing the extent of the leak and taking necessary measures to contain it. “The cooperation of all parties is essential in managing the situation and minimizing its impact,” Igbanor stated.

Further updates will be provided as the situation evolves. Ensuring the safety of residents remains the highest priority, and all efforts are being made to address the leak swiftly and effectively.
