The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has celebrated and rewarded outstanding staff and stakeholders for their significant contributions to promoting road safety in Nigeria.
At the FRSC’s 2024 End-of-Year Awards and Dinner Night, held on Thursday in Abuja, the Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, presented merit awards to individuals who demonstrated exceptional dedication to the mission of ensuring safer roads.
In his address, Mohammed commended the staff and stakeholders for their commitment to road safety despite numerous challenges. He emphasized the importance of sustained devotion to duty, assuring attendees of his continued leadership by example.
“I cannot adequately express my gratitude to the staff for their sacrifices in keeping our highways safer this year, despite the hurdles faced. Rest assured, I will lead from the front as a servant leader,” he said.
The Corps Marshal announced that the second batch of transfer allowances for affected staff would begin on Monday, Dec. 16. He urged staff to remain steadfast in their assignments and promised to implement programmes to address their welfare and health needs.
Highlighting the upcoming festive season, Mohammed appealed for ongoing collaboration with stakeholders to manage the expected increase in human and vehicular movement. He assured Nigerians that FRSC personnel, bolstered by the special logistical support of President Bola Tinubu, are prepared to ensure freer and safer roads during the yuletide.
Speaking at the event, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, represented by Dr. Maurice Mbaeri, lauded FRSC staff for their resourcefulness in traffic management. He pledged continued support for the Corps to enhance its logistics and welfare needs.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards to exemplary staff and stakeholders. Honorees included Dr. Nafisa Shehu-Mohammed, President of the Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association (ROSOWA), media organizations, transport unions, and Mr. Sayid Habib of the Lekki Unit Command, Lagos, who was praised for his professionalism in managing a challenging public encounter.
The event served as a testament to the FRSC’s commitment to road safety and its resolve to ensure smoother, safer travel during the festive season.
