The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State chapter, has called for increased focus on education for all children in Nigeria ,emphasizing the critical role of girl-child education in achieving societal transformation.
Speaking at a conference of Traditional and Religious Leaders on the Significance of Girls’ Education in the North-Central geopolitical zone, held in Minna, the CAN Chairman, Most Revd. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, described education as a “beacon of hope that illuminates the path towards a more equitable and prosperous future for all.”
Dr. Yohanna, who also serves as the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, emphasized that education is a powerful tool for breaking barriers, challenging harmful stereotypes, and building a world where everyone, regardless of gender, is valued and given opportunities to achieve their full potential.
He urged Nigerians to champion inclusive education as a cornerstone of progress and a foundation for a brighter future.
Addressing his peers, the Bishop stressed the pivotal role of religious and traditional institutions in shaping societal norms and supporting policies that promote gender equality.
Similarly, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, underscored the importance of providing equal educational opportunities to all children.
The traditional ruler advocated for the girl-child to pursue education at all levels without interruptions from societal or cultural distractions, such as early marriage.
Commending the developmental efforts of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, the Sultan expressed hope that ongoing projects in the state would be completed successfully before the governor’s tenure ends.
The conference underscored the collective responsibility of leaders to foster a future where education serves as a unifying and empowering force for everyone, regardless of gender.
