Kogi State Internal Revenue Service KGIRS, on Tuesday ,began the process of shaping the minds of secondary students in the state,to understand and imbibe the concept of civic responsibility from the outset of their education.
This is particularly in regard to the obligation of paying taxes to the government.
The Executive Chairman of KGIRS, Alhaji Salihu Sule Enehe, in his speech at the Maiden Tax Quiz Competition organized by the Service in partnership with the state Ministry of Education and Science in Lokoja, stressed the need to “catch them young.”, especially in taxation.
He emphasized the importance of nurturing a generation of informed and engaged taxpayers.
The KGIRS, represented by the Director of Administration and ICT of the Service,Mr.Alexious Akande, Alhaji Enehe said the goal of the Service with the concept of “catch them young” is also to foster a culture a culture of tax awareness and compliance and compliance among the youth in the state.
According to him, KGIRS organized the competition to educate the students about taxation in order to empower them to become responsible citizens and future leaders.
The KGIRS boss,who congratulated the winners and participants in the competition, described their dedication to learning and growth as inspiring and urged them to continue to explore the world of taxation.
He extended gratitude to the state Ministry of Education and Science its super towards the success of the competition,said ,”together we can build a brighter future for our youth and ensure a sustainable tax system for our state.

Our correspondent reports that at the end of the competition involving six secondary schools, Harmony International school, Lokoja emerged champion.
Some invited guests at the occasion.
Prizes, cash awards, and souvenirs were awarded to the champion and other participants.
