The Niger State House of Assembly has raised concerns over the occupation of Nagwamase Military Cantonment in Kontagora by terrorist groups, urging immediate intervention from both federal and state authorities.

In a resolution, the Assembly called on the state Governor, Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago, to coordinate with the Nigerian Army to reclaim the camp, which has historically served as the largest military training facility in the region.

The legislature noted that terrorists have established multiple camps within the facility, posing severe security risks to local communities.

According to Hon. Abdullahi Isah, who represents Kontagora II, the presence of the armed groups has displaced residents across 23 communities in Kontagora and Mariga LGAs, with several recent attacks resulting in abductions and forcing farmers to abandon their lands.

The Assembly pledged support for the state government’s efforts to mobilize the military in restoring security, stressing the urgency of liberating the affected areas.
