The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has pledged the state government’s readiness to collaborate with the federal government to fast-track oil exploration in the state.
This aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to advancing oil production in Nigeria’s frontier basins.
The governor made this statement on Thursday in Abuja during a meeting with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.
Governor Ododo expressed optimism that the partnership would encourage investment in Kogi’s oil sector. He assured that his administration would create an investor-friendly environment to facilitate growth in the industry.
On his part, Senator Lokpobiri reaffirmed Kogi’s status as an oil-producing state and reiterated the federal government’s dedication to attracting investments to tap into the state’s vast oil deposits. He noted that the Petroleum Industry Act empowers the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to explore frontier basins and emphasized the government’s commitment to unlocking new oil discoveries.
The minister praised Governor Ododo for his leadership and efforts to improve governance in Kogi State.
Our correspondent recalls that Kogi was recognized as Northern Nigeria’s first oil-producing state after the federal government confirmed the discovery of oil in commercial quantities in 2022.
