The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) has assured all political parties of a fair and equal playing field in the forthcoming local government elections.
The Chairman of the commission,Mr. Mamman Nda Eri, gave the assurance during a meeting with the Kogi State Executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Lokoja.
Mr. Eri emphasized that the Commission’s mandate is to ensure the election outcome reflects the true will of Kogi residents, regardless of political affiliation.
He confirmed that all necessary preparations have been made, with distribution of non-sensitive materials set to begin soon.
Mr. Eri appealed to the NUJ for support in accurate coverage and verification of results before publication.
On security, he assured that adequate provisions have been made across all 21 Local Government Areas to ensure the safety of staff, journalists, observers, and stakeholders.
Earlier,the State NUJ Chairman, Alhaji Ademu Seidu Haruna, had expressed commitment of Journalists in the state to a collaborative relationship with the Commission to support a smooth electoral process.
He, however , stressed the need for a level playing field and adequate security to protect lives and property.
The council chairman requested the Commission to provide journalists with identification materials to facilitate movement and security clearance on election day.
