Sheikh Usman Dende, an Ikuechi-based Islamic preacher, has expressed strong disapproval of the recent increase in petrol prices in Nigeria and its adverse effects on the social and economic conditions of the populace.
Sheikh Dende shared his concerns on the sidelines of the eight-day prayer event for Mama Nana Hauwa in Ikuechi, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State on Saturday.
He expressed concern over the severe impact of the fuel price hike on ordinary Nigerians, describing the situation as dire.
He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the hardships caused by the fuel price increase.
The cleric prayed for Almighty Allah to show mercy on Nigerians and alleviate their economic struggles.
In Okene, Kogi State, our correspondent reports that fuel prices at many stations ranged from N1,200 to N1,300 per litre, varying by station and negotiation.
The state capital, Lokoja, also experienced similar inflation, affecting transport fares and food prices.
For instance, the fare for trip between Lokoja and Okene has surged from N2,000 to between N3,000 and N3,500.
The fuel price hike has significantly impacted transport costs and other economic activities in Kogi State.
During the same occasion, other Islamic scholars offered prayers for the deceased, Mama Nana Hauwa, asking Almighty Allah to grant her eternal paradise and recognizing her as a devout Muslim who positively impacted both her family and community.
