Seni Ogunyemi, Corps Commander of the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), has called on the state government to regulate the entry and exit within the transport sector to maintain order.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ota, Ogunyemi stated that the lack of government regulation has led to unethical practices among some transport operators.
He explained that unrestricted access has hindered adherence to traffic rules, contributing to road crashes.
“Our government needs to take decisive action to regulate the transport sector more effectively, as some operators are not familiar with road signs,” Ogunyemi said.
“Additionally, capacity building is crucial to ensure that skilled professionals oversee and address the issues caused by less competent operators,”he added.
Ogunyemi emphasized that such measures would promote sustainable development in the transport sector. He also advised operators to avoid one-way driving to prevent unnecessary accidents.
