The Kogi State Branch of the Council of Ulama’u of Nigeria praises Almighty Allah for the bounties and favors bestowed upon this country. However, the current dire situation in Nigeria results from the collective unfaithfulness of both leaders and citizens to Almighty Allah. The present economic conditions, especially the rising cost of living, have become unbearable for the majority of the populace.
While hunger, fear, and poverty may prompt protests, this is not the optimal solution for our country. We should adhere to the Scriptures and engage in prompt dialogue between the government and protesters to seek amicable solutions to our national issues.
We urge all citizens to avoid protests, as they often lead to rancor, hatred, violence, bloodshed, and disruptions of peaceful coexistence. Instead, the Council calls on the Federal Government, in collaboration with State and Local governments, to address the legitimate demands of those advocating for a nationwide protest. It is crucial for all levels of government to urgently address the pressing issues to alleviate national tensions and restore peace.
The Council also calls on all Islamic scholars, Imams, leaders, and organizations in the State to offer fervent prayers for Allah’s immediate intervention.
We remind all citizens that protest is not the best way to address the current economic challenges. Let us collectively choose dialogue and understanding, which will yield better results for our progress, development, and peaceful coexistence.
The Council sincerely prays to Almighty Allah to guide and protect our leaders and grant us, the followers, the patience, understanding, and cooperation needed to find solutions to our problems. Ameen.
