A Federal High Court in Lokoja has issued a stay of execution on a previous ruling concerning the extension of the Igala Kingdom’s jurisdiction.

The ruling, which was initially between the Attah Igala and the Attorney General of the Federation, has now allowed additional interested parties to join the case.

Previously, the court had decided to place Ajaokuta, Lokoja, and Koton Karfe under the overlordship of Attah Igala, Michael Ameh Oboni.

However, Justice Gabriel Okwo, delivering the stay of execution ruling on July 15, granted the application for Lokoja, Kogi, and Ajaokuta local governments to participate as interested parties.

Among those allowed to join are the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Dr. Ado Ibrahim, the Maigari of Lokoja, Ohimegye Igu Kotonkarfe, and others.

Justice Okwo emphasized that these parties have demonstrated sufficient grounds to be joined in the case and to file for an appeal against the earlier judgment.

In setting aside the previous judgment temporarily, Justice Okwo affirmed the rights of the newly joined parties to seek redress, noting their claims of infringement upon their rights.

This development marks a significant step in the ongoing legal dispute over jurisdictional boundaries in Kogi State.
