The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun Area 1 Command, announced that it generated N92.3 million in revenue between April and June, marking a significant increase compared to the same period last year. Comptroller of Customs, Mr. James Ojo, disclosed this during a press conference in Abeokuta on Monday.
Ojo highlighted that the revenue represented a 52.46% rise from the N53,983,622 recorded in 2023 for the same months. He also noted that the command surpassed its June revenue target by 77.86%, amounting to N34,122,666.90.
The increased revenue was attributed to successful enforcement activities that intercepted various prohibited items, including 219 sacks and 1,725 parcels of cannabis sativa, 940 rounds of live ammunition, and 44,466 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
He added that the command seized 2,227 pieces of pneumatic foreign-used tyres, 64 bales and 222 sacks of used clothes, 2,947 cartons of frozen poultry products, and 7,015 bags of foreign parboiled rice.
The seizures, with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N770,666,237.00, underscored the command’s commitment to combating smuggling and safeguarding the local economy, public health, and safety, he said.
Ojo praised the diligence and professionalism of the officers and men involved, emphasizing their role in surpassing revenue targets and contributing to national economic growth.
He credited the success to the intelligence-driven approach and robust strategies.
