The Police Command in kwara state has responded swiftly to a distress call regarding an attempted culpable homicide and the subsequent arrest of a suspected ritualist in the state.
In a statement signed by DSP. TOUN EJIRE-ADEYEMI, the Police Public Relations Officer for CP Victor Olaiya, Commissioner of Police in the state, the incident unfolded on the 2nd of July 2024 around 1800 hrs in the Abab Oke-Foma area of Ilorin.
According to CP Olaiya, the police received a report from the C Division that at approximately 1730 hrs, a 10-year-old boy named Akeem Nurudeen, a resident of Abab area Abayawo, Ilorin, was hawking pepper when he was lured into a room by a suspect identified as Isiaka Adeniyi, aged 46, from Ifedapo Community, Oke-Foma area, Ilorin.
The suspect allegedly deceived the victim under the guise of purchasing pepper, but instead covered the victim’s face with cloth and attempted to harm him with a knife.
Fortunately, vigilant community members intervened swiftly, apprehending the suspect and delivering him to the police station. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Commending the proactive efforts of the community members, the Commissioner of Police emphasized the commitment of the police force to ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Kwara State. He urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
The Commissioner reassured the public that no effort would be spared in ensuring justice is served in this serious matter.
