The Organised Labour in Kogi State has directed all unions and affiliates under it to immediately comply with the national directive of the union to embark on national strike to press home the demand for a minimum wage.
The State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress,NLC,Comrade Amari Gabriel, disclosed this at a meeting with SEC members on behalf of his TUC counterpart, Comrade Sule Ahmed Tijani in Lokoja.
He called on leaders of unions in the state to make the strike have its full impact of a total compliance and cooperation, describing it as a struggle for the liberation of Nigerian workers from “hunger, pain and poverty.”
Also speaking, State Trade Union Congress,TUC Chairman, Comrade Sule Ahmed Tijani,called on workers to ensure total cooperation to achieve set goal of the strike.
He appealed to union leaders to enforce the strike, to bring about maximum output and results for “a total shutdown.”
Also speaking, the state Vice Chairman of the NLC,who also doubles,as enforcement chairman for the strike, Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo, called on all chapter chairmen to be at their duty post for the enforcement, adding that the monitoring committee would be on the ground to ensure compliance.
All Union leaders promised to comply with the directive to make the strike effective.
Our correspondent recalls that the National body of the Organised Labour, after the expiration of the May 31st deadline given to the Federal Government, declared a nationwide strike to press home its demand for minimum wage for the Nigerian workers.
The labour said the strike became necessary in view of the failure of government to arrive at an agreement with the tripartite committee set up for the exercise.
The strike is expected to start 12 midnight on June 3.
