FRSC nabs 20 traffic offenders for using expired tyres.

The Ota Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Ogun, says it has arrested 20 traffic offenders along the Toll-Gate area of Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Mr Wasiu Ogunmefun, Ota new Unit Commander of FRSC, made this known to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Ota,Ogun.

He said the offenders were arrested for various traffic violations; raging from overloading,over speeding,failure to install speed limit device and use of expired tyres among others.

The unit commander said that the unit embarked on the arrest to curb excesses of motorists and stem road crashes on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

According to him, the offenders are arraigned and summarily tried before a mobile court for quick dispensation of justice.

He said that the court,presided over by Magistrate B.O.ILO, however, discharged three of 23 offenders.

“The other 20 were convicted and asked to pay fines depending on the gravity of their offences,” he said.

“We are appealing to motorists, especially on Lagos-Abeokuta axis, to obey traffic rules and regulations as safety on the highways is a collective responsible of everyone.

“In addition,they need to change their attitude towards the use of roads, so that the highway could be safe for everyone.”he said.

Ogunmefun said that the conviction would serve as deterrent to other would-be traffic offenders.

He said that the exercise would be a continuous one to instill sanity, especially on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and its environs.(NAN).
