The Niger State Council of the, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by Comrade Abu Nmodu, has procured and distributed 10kg bag of rice, each, to members.

Abu expressed regret that despite so much sacrifices, even at the detriment of their lives, working almost 24 hours, journalists in Niger state were not appreciated, noting that most of them now live from hand to mouth.

Journalists in Niger state, according to him suffered the harsh economic reality more, adding that this had also affected their performances in meeting with their statutory responsibilities as members of the Fourth in Estate of realm.

Comrade Abu said he and his cabinet decided to procure rice for members across the eleven chapels that made up the Council to encourage them “to keep hope alive for a better tomorrow”.

He commended the doggedness of members, especially Correspondent’s Chapel for remaining steadfastly committed to upholding the ethics of the profession, notwithstanding the prevailing circumstances, adding that the hardship would not last forever.

While wishing members happy Easter, Ramadan Kareem and happy Eid-el fitr in advance, Abu encouraged them to strive towards remaining focused in their chosen career, despite the challenges.
