By correspondent in Lokoja.
For the first time in several years, local government workers in kogi state, north central Nigeria, received 80 per cent salary and promptly paid as well.
Reacting to the cheering development, the Kogi State President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Comr. Tade Adeyemi, in a statement in Lokoja on Thursday, praised the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the increase and prompt payment of local government workforce.
According to him, the percentage increase in the take home of council workers in the state was a pointer to the fact that, Governor Ododo has started on a good note.
Comr. Tade, however, demanded for the full implementation and cash backing of promotion arrears for the workers of the third tier of government in the state.
NULGE boss expressed optimism that Ododo’s government, at the end of his tenure, would wipe away the tears of LG workers through improved welfare package.
He noted that the early steps of the Governor were indicative that more goodies await the LG workers.
Some state civil servants,in an interview with our correspondent also praised the increase in the salary percentage in their counterparts at the local government.
They, however, urged the state government to take a review of the implementation of the last cash-backed promotion for them.
According to them, the implementation fell short of meeting their yearnings in terms of salary adjustments reflecting their new promotion.
Some of the state workers, who claimed that they ought to have N20,000 increase in their salaries, having received up to three promotions without cash backing, spanning about 10 years, said that they only got N5,000 increase to their salaries at the end of the cash backing exercise.
