The hope for consistent availability of clean and portable water supply to residents of the ancient town of Okene,has become a reality as Kogi State governor, Alhaji Ododo Ahmed Usman has taken the bull by the horns to fulfill his campaign promises to the people of the area.
And this positive development would be happening simultaneously in Lokoja, the state capital, too.
The Commissioner for Water Resources,Engr. Yahaya MD Farouk, disclosed this on Thursday in Lokoja while supervising the distribution of the chemicals meant for the treatment of both Okene and old Lokoja water works.
He declared that the bold steps taken by the governor to tackle the perennial problem of clean and portable water in the affected communities was a demonstration of his concern in finding a lasting solution to the problem.
Recall that the people of Okene town and it’s environs have been living with the perennial problem of scarcity of portable water since the time immemorial.
It is instructive to note that there are three major water projects, namely Osara, Ekuku dams and Okene water works, which can adequately supply water to Ebiraland,if properly harnessed.
Indeed, this latest initiatives of Governor Ododo Ahmed Usman is seen as a major milestone in the history of Ebiraland.
In the same vein, residents of Lokoja have been experiencing water scarcity for couple of months now, with the government resorting to adoption of palliative measures to address the problem,while repair works continues on the greater Lokoja water works.
Engr.Farouk promised to sustain the tempo of ongoing palliative measures to tackle the problem until a lasting solution comes up the stream.
