The Kogi Regional office of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, says that the frequent outage on “our Fedders is as a result of shortage in gas supply to the Generation companies.”
This is contained in a statement by the management of the office in Lokoja, Kogi State and a copy available to The Reporters on Friday.
The office, however,assure that “all the Stakeholders within the sector are working to resolve the problem within a minimal period.
AEDC assured electricity consumers of its commitment to serve them better.
Meanwhile,the effects of power outages in Lokoja and its environs have put much pressure on the social and economic activities of the people in the area.
Operators of many commercial outfits such as welders , restaurants, barbing saloons, frozen food and sachet water sellers, described the absence of electricity to run their businesses as highly regrettable.
According to them, in a separate interview with our correspondent, their businesses had slowed down, enormous patronage lost and profit at the lowest ebb among other difficulties brought to bear on them by the frequent power outages.
Owners of residential buildings in Lokoja said they were not spared the rod of the power outage as they groan over the characteristic terrible heat associated with Lokoja environment and yearn for electricity to activate their fans and air conditioners,to ease the biting effects of the unfriendly atmosphere in the area now.
Some of them said that though have generating set, the high cost of fuel had stopped them from using their equipment as an alternative source of energy.
The Reporters’s finding showed that some areas in Lokoja, such as Ganaja and Gadumo quarters, along Lokoja-Ajaokuta road have been without public light for the past 10 hours and their electricity condition had not changed as at the time of this report, Friday evening.
The residents called on AEDC to find lasting solution to the problem.
