The Police Command in Ebony state, South South Nigeria says one of its officer has been killed by gunmen during lawful duty.
The Police Public Relations Officer PPRO for the command, Joshua Ukandu, made the disclosure in a statement on Friday in Abakaliki while confirming the tragic incident.
The Police image maker further disclosed that the operatives engaged the hoodlums in a shootout on Thursday at about 11.a.m on Ngbo-Effium Road in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state resulting in the death of the policeman on the spot.
According to him,another police operative was wounded and receiving medical treatment.
He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Augustina Ogbodo, had deployed tactical teams of the police to the scene of the attack to track down the criminals.
“The teams are on the trail of the hoodlums.
Meanwhile, calm and normalcy have been restored to the area,” Ukandu said.
He said the commissioner had appealed to residents of the state to support the police with “useful information” that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing hoodlums while also assuring them of “unwavering commitment” of the police to protect their lives and properties.
Current matters gathered that the latest incident came, two days after another gunmen killed a Police officer in Akwa Ibom state ( South South).
