The scarcity of safe drinking water which has been on for the past 2 months in Lokoja, capital of confluence Kogi state; north central Nigeria,will soon be a thing of the past.
The new Kogi State Commissioner For Water Resources, Engr. Farouk Danladi, gave the assurance on Wednesday shortly after assigned his portfolio by Gov. Ododo Ahmed Usman at the Government house, Lokoja.
The commissioner,who confirmed the development, urged people to exercise patience.
He said:”The Government is aware of the challenges. We are not unmindful of the water scarcity. “As soon as we assume office, we will take a look at the challenges, see how we can solve the problems once and for all”.
” The greater Lokoja water works has the capacity to deliver 10 million cubic metres of water to the people daily and the state government has a strong conviction of that.
” As an Engineer, we are trained to be problem solvers. I can assure you that everything, humanly possible, would be done to solve the problem of water in Lokoja and other parts of the State.
” We are aware that the issue of power supply to power such magnitude of demand is a problem. “We are aware of other surrounding problems. We are not going to allow the challenges to overwhelm us.
” All we are demanding from the people is a little bit of patience and cooperation. I can assure you that Governor Ododo is resolved to meet with the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Kogi State, “he added.
Engr. Farouk,who described the present administration in the state as people-oriented, called on the people to show more commitment in supporting the Ododo-led administration.
He promised the workers in his ministry of all the needed motivation and encouragement that will enable them discharge their duties efficiently and effectively.
