The Supreme Court on Friday in Abuja affirmed Engr.Sule Abdullahi as the duly elected governor of Nasarawa state.

In a judgment read by
Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the apex court held that the verdict of the court of appeal, which affirmed Sule’s election, was “comprehensive and well considered”.
Consequently, the five-member panel of the apex court dismissed the appeal filed by David Ombugadu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Our correspondent recalls that in March 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Sule as winner of the election with 347,209 votes while Ombugadu scored 283,016 votes.

Not satisfied with the results of the governorship poll, the PDP candidate headed to Election Petitions Tribunal to challenge the outcome of the exercise, claiming alleged irregularities.

In October 2023, the Election Petition Tribunal in Lafia nullified Sule’s victory and declared Ombugadu as winner of the poll.
Consequently, Sule and the APC sought to overturn the verdict of the tribunal at the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, report from Lafia, the capital of the state, indicates that the place is agog with jubilation as youths trooped to the streets to celebrate the apex judgment.
Another report showed that some other youths were seem in a pocket of protest against the judgment but have been dispersed as at the tine of this report.
