Members of the Nasarawa state House of Assembly have elected Jafaru Jatau and Mohammed Oyanki, as new speaker and deputy speaker respectively.
Our correspondent reports the elections of the new leadership came 48 hours after the Court of Appeal sacked the incumbent speaker, Ibrahim Balarebe Abdullahi, a third term speaker of the house.
Jatau, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Kokona East State Constituency, became the speaker following the vacuum created as a result of the removal of the former speaker.
Mohammed Oyanki,a PDP member representing Doma South State Constituency, was elected deputy speaker.
The Reporters recalls that the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja had on Tuesday, November 28, sacked Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi representing Umaisha/ Ugya as the speaker.
Before his sack, Abdullahi was a member of the rulling APC, who first came to the Assembly in 2015 and was elected speaker, re-elected as a member and speaker in 2019 and returned in 2023 as member and speaker.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja had declared Sa’ad Abdullahi Ibrahim of the PDP as the winner of the March 18 2023 election for the Umaisha/Ugya state constituency.
Meanwhile, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State is expected to present 2024 Appropriation Bill to members of the State House of Assembly on Friday.

He indicated that “the budget presentation will hold at the Assembly Complex by 10a.m and urged all members to attend the sitting, unfailingly.
“All government functionaries, stakeholders, and friends of the Assembly are invited to witness the budget presentation,”he added.
He directed the clerk and other staff of the Assembly to urgently make themselves available and ensure that all necessary arrangements for the constitutional exercise were put in place for the event.
