The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nasarawa State Council, has appealed to the Governor of the state, Abdullahi Sule, to expedite action toward the renovation of the NUJ Press Centre, Lafia, noting that the centre had become a death trap.
This is contained in a six-point communique signed by Sunday John, NUJ Secretary in Lafia at the end of the monthly congress of the council and a copy available to The Reporters on Friday.
The congress has also appealed to the Governor to always appoint professional journalists as Commissioner for Information for effective propagation of government’s policies and programmes.
The congress also appealed to Sule to redeem his pledge of a vehicle to Nasarawa State Council of NUJ as promised during one of his visits to the Press Centre in 2022.
The congress, however, called on members to always exhibit high sense of professionalism in their reportage.
The congress commended President Bola Tinubu for approving N5 billion as palliative to states to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal and appealed to the state government to ensure that the intervention gets to the most vulnerable in the state.
