A commercial motorcycle rider in Itobe community, Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State,north central Nigeria, Abu Wada, popularly known as “Abu keke”, on Friday,lost his life while shooting trouble during a crisis that erupted between miners in the community.

According to sources, Abuh Keke,whose wife is nursing a baby,according to sources, was seen trying to ensure peace between the angry miners over their activities few minutes to his tragic end.

He was coming out of his house to meet the embattled group to cool them down when a police man was said to have shot to the air and stray bullet hit him and he gave up the ghost.
The incident took place in Abuja Area of Itobe around 11a.m yesterday when feud started between two warring groups in the area.
An eyewitness, Umar Etu, said the crisis started when a police patrol team that came in to quell the situation shot and killed a resident.
He added that angry residents,therefore, stormed the police station and set two police patrol vans on fire.

“The angry mob were almost setting the police station on fire after they overpowered men of the policemen in the station, if not for the prompt arrival of the area commander,” he said.

The Police Public Relations Officers, PPRO, for the Police Command in the state, SP.William Ovie Ayah, confirmed the story in an interview with our correspondent in Lokoja on Saturday.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the state,CP Onuoha Bethrand C, had ordered investigation into the matter, adding that the police officer that shot the stray bullet, name withheld, had been committed to orderly trial room among other measures.

He added that the CP also.visited the chief of Itobe to restore law and order as well as ensure peace in the community.

Sources described Itobe as very rich in solid minerals such as gold among others.
