NPC solicits media support for acceptable census

The National Population Commission (NPC) federal Commissioner in Kwara state,Alhaji Rasak Gidado, has urged media Professionals to support the Commission to enable it achieve reliable ,accurate and acceptable ,2023 population and housing Census .

Alhaji Gidado gave the advice while declaring open a one -day capacity building workshop for Journalists on effective reporting of the 2023 population and housing Census held at the NUJ press center in Ilorin.

Represented by the head of Technical unit,Alhaji Zubair Olaitan ,the state NPC federal Commissioner said the training would provide Journalists with the opportunity to understand the working of the newly introduced technology and be able to reflect same in their reportage to the public.

Alhaji Gidado expressed optimism that the migration from analog to digital exercise would reduce the strenuous paper exercise and make it more accurate and reliable.

He noted that the synergy between the Commission and the media would strengthen the Journalists’ capacity and understanding of it’s workings ahead of the 2023 population and housing Census.

In her paper presentation entitled,”Enumeration Area Demarcation For The 2023 Population And Housing Census”the head of Cartography Unit of the NPCin Kwara state,Mrs Janet Adewara,said the exercise would entail the head count of every household,their social and economic life as well as number of houses among others.

She also urged the media Professionals to join hands with the Commission to showcase its activities to the general public.

In her presentation the Kwara state Head of Public Affairs Unit of the Commission,Mrs Olufunmilayo Lawal, urged media Professionals to help generate content that would reduce disinformation concerning the exercise.

In his address of welcome, the Kwara state Director of Human Resource Unit of the NPC,Mr Joseph Onigbolabi, called for collaborative effort of the media and other members of the public to achieve the desired success in the exercise.
