Tragedy hits Kogi NUJ again

As members of the Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists are recovering from the shock of the death of Mrs Zainab Adeiza,the wife of their chairman, Alhaji Mimohjimoh Adeiza, a member of the council, Mr Sam Egwu, has died.

Our Correspondent gathered that
Egwu,who was the state correspondent of the Leadership newspaper, died on Sunday in Lokoja.

Though the picture of the death of Egwu remained sketchy as at the time of this report on Monday morning, sources said the deceased was hale and hearty shortly before his sudden death.

He was said to have gone to INEC office, Lokoja on Sunday to monitor the distribution of permanent voter card, PVC and returned to his house at about 2p.m.

In the house,he was said to have sat on a plastic chair, had his body system failed and in the process, died.

Our Correspondent who was at NUJ Press Centre, Lokoja on Monday, to feel the mood of members on the incident reports that many of them were seen discussing and lamenting over his death in pensive mood.

Many of the Journalists, in their remarks on the Council’s Social media (whatsapp) lamented Egwu’s death on NUJ whatsapp platform.

The chairman of the council, Alhaji Mimohjimoh Adeiza wrote”Just received a heartrending message that our own Sam Egwu of Leadership is dead.”

One of them wrote:”Really shocking as it is saddening…Think of it, what is in this world?

” Oh death! please, let there be ceasefire.

“We are mourning the death of the good wife of our chairman and you now push us further into the sea of tears with the death of our colleague and friend, Sam Egwu. Death, why? Enough of our tears please!”

Another member wrote,”Another heart break for the pen family!! May God have mercy on his soul and give the family and all of us, the fortitude to bear the loss amin.”

The general feeling of members who spoke with our Correspondent described the late Egwu as an easy going and friendly colleague whose absence they would sorely missed.

The deceased, (64), was born in Awoh Apali in Ankpa Local Governnent Area of kogi state while his remains are said to have been deposited at the Kogi State Specialist hospital,Lokoja.
