The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is expected to begin tour of flood ravaged areas in Nigeria as from Tuesday.
His media aide, Paul Ibe, who stated this in a statement in Abuja, said that Atiku would kick off the tour from Bayelsa state.
According to Ibe,the tour became imperative due to the trauma it caused victims.
The media aide added that the exercise was to provide Atiku with the opportunity to have an on-sight impact assessment of the flooding incidents in the country .
He said it would also serve as “a veritable window to input those ecological concerns in his policy documents.”
Our Correspondent recalls that the Minister of humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq at a press conference had in Abuja recently, disclosed that the flood affected 2,504,095 persons, displayed 1,302,589,injured 2,407 persons and recorded 603 deaths nation wide.
“The number of houses that are partially damaged is 121,318; the number of houses that are damaged is 82,053; farmlands that are partially damaged, are 108,392 hectares, while damaged farmlands are 332,327 hectares. This is the statistics of today, October 16, 2022,” she said.
The Reporters gathered that in kogi state, flood affected 600 hectres of farmlands, seven persons lost their lives, thousands rendered homeless and property worth millions of naira destroyed among others.
Meanwhile,the plight of flood victims in the state has continued to receive the attention of public organisations with Police Officers Welfare Association,POWA,SEMA, spirited individuals, among others showering victims with relief materials to cushion the effect of the natural disaster.
Investigation by our Correspondent showed that the flood has also been reciding considerably in Lokoja and its environs and in other eight local government areas affected,with few of the victims whose houses have been cleared of flood returning home to pick pieces of their life again.
