The Chief Imam of the Kogi State Ministry of Educatuon Mosque, Lokoja,Imam Abdulganiyu Ayuba, has stressed the need for Journalists in the state to stick to the concept of sincerity in informing, educating and entertaining the public and in their statutory responsibility to the society.
He gave the advice on Friday in his sermon, entitled,”sincerity” during the special Jumaat prayer organised for Journalists in the state as part of the week long Press Week activities of the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ in kogi state.
Imam Ayuba reminded members of the fourth realm of the estate that being sincere in whatever action anybody does, including information dissemination,is in conformity with the injunction of Islam.
According to him, sincerity is the quality of being free from hypocrisy and other negative tendencies that can cause problem in the society.
The cleric,who described information as power, also urged Journalists to fear Allah in the discharge of their duty.
He prayed for Allah’s protection, direction, reward and honour over Journalists and their families in the course of carrying out their work for the development of the state.
Our Correspondent reports that the chief imam later led the congregation, which include the Chairman of the union, Alhaji Momohjimoh Adeiza,some members of his executive and other Journalists on two rakat prayers.
Meanwhile, in a statement signed by Jerry Ocheme and Abu Michael, Chairman and Secretary of the 2022 Press Week Planning Committee respectively, members of the Union would on Sunday,converge at the Living Faith Church, beside Ostrich Bakery, for a Christian Thanksgiving Service, beginning at 8:00a.m.
They added that on Monday, members would engage in a road work and other exercises to keep fit, with the walk expected to begin from the NUJ Press Centre by 8:00a.m.
“The Grand finale of the 2022 NUJ Press Week would hold on Thursday 27th October, 2022 at Idrinana Hotel, with the lecture and Award programme at 10:00a.m.
“The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the National President of the NUJ, Comr. Chris Isiguzo, Zonal D Vice President of the Union, Comr. Chris Asaka, other top government functionaries, and notable personalities from within and outside the State, are expected to grace the auspicious lecture and Award programme.
“Lastly, a suya night is scheduled to hold at the NUJ Press Centre same day by 4:00p.m to round up the 2022 NUJ Press Week,” Ocheme and Michael further disclosed.
