The Federal government says it has no agenda to unbundle the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), denying ever contemplating such agenda.
This is contained in a statement signed by Comrade Jeo Ajaero, General Secretary, National Union of Electricity Employees in Abuja on Wednesday and a copy made available to The Reporters on Thursday in Lokoja
According to him, this is one of the outcomes of the conciliatory meeting initiated by the Federal Government with the two in-house Unions held on August 17, 2022 at Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Central Area, Abuja.
He said:” The meeting deliberated on most of the issues in contention and ended with the following resolutions:
On Issue of Unbundling of TCN’ it was put to rest as the government denied ever contemplating such agenda.
On the Issue of Stigmatization of Ex-PHCN workers, who have been denied employment opportunities in TCN; a high power committee was inaugurated comprising Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Power, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, BPE, Market Operator.
“Others are Office of the Head of Service of the Federation and the Two in-house Unions as members; to fine tune policy as was considered discriminatory and unacceptable and revert back immediately.
Payment of outstanding arrears of privatization; The Ministry of Power was mandated to activate a sincere process with BPE to pay the outstanding liabilities (16th month arrears) and a comprehensive report is expected in two weeks.
“In view of the foregoing, the two in-house Unions hereby agreed, on trust, to suspend the ongoing strike action and directed members to resume work immediately.”
He appreciated those who attended the meeting for their “support, patience, understanding and Commitment in the course of this industrial action.”
Meanwhile, the Kogi state council of NUEE, in line with the directive of the national secretariat of NUEE,has asked the members within the council to go by the directive of the national secretariat to suspend the strike and return to work immediately.
Comrade Segun Medupin, state council chairman, who gave conveyed the directive to members,thanked them for their full cooperation and dedications to call of duty, adding that further directives would be communicated later.
