Catholic University Launches Programme For Sustainable Livelihood For Youth Empowerment

Against the background of youths clamouring to leave Nigeria to find work and better living conditions abroad, Godfrey Okoye University, a private Catholic University in Enugu, South East Nigeria, has launched a programme, known as GO – Uni European Business Park, for youth empowerment and education.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja on the initiative, the Admission Officer and Director of Student Mentorship and Parent Relations, Lady Jane Ndukwe, said, “the idea of the GO – UNI European Business Park came through our able Vice-Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Dr. Christian Anieke, the first of its kind in Nigeria”.

She explained that the GO-UNI European Business Park is a Public -Private Partnership with the Austrian and German governments, private European investors and Godfrey Okoye University.

“It is designed to provide sustainable livelihood to our students and the Nigerian youths through education and employment opportunities. It has attracted over 20 European companies that would have their presence in Godfrey Okoye University”, she noted.

According to her, the GO-UNI European Business Park is located in the serene, Eco-friendly main campus of Godfrey Okoye University, which also has a lake, making it a good tourist attraction.

“The GO-UNI European Business Park will be a friendly economic community in Nigeria with adequate recreational facilities, flawless security, access to water, electricity and excellent sanitation.

” It will teach our students and the Nigerian youths, how to learn and work in an eco-friendly environment, where there’s harmony between human beings and nature.

“It will expose our youths to working in an excellent environment where things really work and people can find value and happiness in what they do”.

“This will encourage more youths to stay back in Nigeria and develop our country rather than run away to other countries for greener pastures. They will literally find this greener pastures in the GO-UNI European Business Park,” Lady Ndukwe said.

She further revealed that admission into University is in progress, adding that the cut off point is 160 for all courses, except Law, which is 220.

“We are keen on entrepreneurship, so that our students do not become stranded after leaving the university.

” None of our students should sit at home because of his or her inability to get a job. No, they have been trained to develop their own businesses and become employers of labour.

“We have a university wide Mentorship program. No student is anonymous. Each one has been assigned a mentor to guide him or her through the university and develop professional network of connections”.

“Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu is intentional about grooming the total human being in academics and sound morals, making value based choices that promote growth, sustainability, unity and progress” Lady Jane Ndukwe assured.
