Osun Poll: Ede residents celebrate Adeleke’s victory

Ede, a historic town in Osun State, on Sunday,was thrown into ecstatic jubilation over the election of its illustrious citizen, Sen. Demola Adeleke of the All Progressives Congress, APC,who won the Saturday Governorship electíon and became the Governor-elect of the state.

Our Correspondent recalls that
INEC Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, had earlier stated that Adeleke polled 403,371 votes to defeat his closet rival, Governor. Gboyega Oyetola, the candidate of the APC, who scored 375,027 votes.

Ogundipe is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos.

Our Correspondent reports that people from all walks of life, trooped the town, radiating happiness, as they converged at the Country Home Area of Ede, the residences of the Adelekes, to show appreciation for the cheering news.

The elated residents were seen in their hundrefs engaging in warm embrace,warm handshaking, smiling exchanging pleasantries and singing – IMOLE De, (Light Has Come) , the campaign slogan of Senator Adeleke.

Both young and elderly were given free access to assorted, non-alcoholic drinks at the gates of homes of the prominent Adeleke family.

Large crowd were seen singing and dancing joyfully in front of the residence of one time Governor of the state,the late Isiaka Adeleke, that of his, junior brother, Dr. Deji Adeleke and also at the residence of Governor-elect, Sen. Demola Adeleke, a little distance walk from that of his brothers.

Some of the celebrating citizens who spoke to our Correspondent commended INEC ”for a job well done” urging it to sustain the good trend for all future  elections.

Mr. Mudashiru Adebanji,who expressed delight over the outcome of the election, stressed that INEC performance in Osun State”potends good omen for the nation’s democracy”.

Some residents of Osun state such as Messrs Ayodele Akinlabi, Moroof Alabi and Matthew Oladimeji amon others, also spoke to our Correspondent in Lokoja, kogi State, also expressed joy over the electoral victory of one of their own.

They, however, urged the governor-elect to show magnanimity in victory by carrying “everybody” along in governance.

They also called on Adeleke’s co- contestants to demonstrate the spirit of good sportsmanship by cooperating with him in the interest of the development of Osun state.
