A litre of fuel on Thursday sold for at least N180 in many filling stations in Lokoja, kogi state instead of the official pump price of N165,as the scarcity of the product set in with sour effects on the social and economic life of the people.

A correspondent of the Reporters, who visited filling stations on Thursday, reports that the filling stations were characterised by long queue of vehicles as well as that of people with jerricans.
Some of the fuel dealers displayed the illegal price on their pumping machine.
As at the price of this report on Thursday,the Federal government has not announced any increase in the pump price of fuel in the country.
Investigation by our Correspondent showed that motorists who abandoned their vehicles and besieged filling with jerricans to buy fuel, have to part with extra N300 to bribe petrol attendants to be able buy 20 litres of the product.

Transport fare has gone up by 50 per cent as a result of the scarcity of fuel.
The similar development is being witnessed in the two markets, where prices of food stuffs have continued to be on a frightening increase.
