Kwara multiple autocrash claims pregnant mother,8 others

A multiple autocrash has occurred in Ilorin, Kwara state, claiming the life of a pregnant mother and eight othersvi all of who were burnt to death.

Our Correspondent in Ilorin reports that accident,which occurred at the Ilorin International Airport road along Ilorin-Ogbomoso expressway at about 8:00 a.m on Sunday involved a commercial passenger bus and a private vehicle.

One of the vehicles was said to be carrying kegs filled with fuel while the other,a Toyota Hiace commercial bus, with registration number LRN 787 FR, was heading to Lagos with about 20 passengers during the accident.

The fuel carrying vehicle was said to have rammed into the passenger vehicle while heading towards Ilorin.

Our Correspondent further gathered that the two vehicles involved somersaulted and had their tyres bursted and then went into flame.

Speaking on the incident, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in the state, Jonathan Owoade, confirmed the tragedy and described it as unfortunate.

Giving the picture of the accident, he said,”A car coming out of the airport ran across the road, thinking it could have crossed the road before the bus gets to it but this was not to be,incidentally, it was said to be carrying fuel,”he said.

The sector commander also said that the injured persons were taken to the state general hospital, Ilorin by passersby before his men arrived at the scene of the crash, adding that the deceased were taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) mortuary, Oke Oyi by the FRSC rescue and the patrol team.
