Suspected kidnappers fail to abduct kogi Commissioner

Attempt by men suspected to be Kidnappers in abducting the Kogi State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Victor Adewale Omofaiye on Sunday, failed due to the spirited effort of his orderly, the Reporters,an online publication gathered.

A source, who pleaded anonymity, told the media outfit in Lokoja on Monday that the event happened in the evening between Oke-Ijumu and Iyara in Ijumu Local Government Area of the state, while the Commissioner was on his way from Ekinrin Adde,his home town, to attend some ceremonies elsewhere in area.

He added that no fewer than 20 fierce-looking,armed men waylaid the commissioner, pointing out that God almighty and the timely intervention of his orderly who shielded from the kidnap suspects saved him from the onslaught.

The eye witness added that some unspecified number of travelers were not so lucky as they kidnapped and whisked them into the bush, apparently to begin asking for ransom.

Chief Omofaiye was qouted in a media report as explaining that it took the quick intervention of his orderly who took him away from the screen, adding however that he sustained gun shot on his leg.

Speaking on the event in a telephone interview with our Correspondent in Lokoja on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Police Command in the state,DSP William Aya, confirmed the report.

He said the command had deployed some of its personnel to beef up security in the area and ensure that the suspects were brought to justice.

On media report credited to the Are Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, that bandits and Kidnappers have relocated to Kogi and Kwara State, Aya said any body could write anything on the pages of newspaper,” but it beholds on Adam to prove the authenticity of his assertion.”

According to media report, Iba Adams, on Saturday, raised alarm about the presence of bandits and kidnappers in Kogi and Kwara States,citing report at his disposal to butress his point.

Iba Adams,who disclosed this while speaking at the 2021 edition of Oya Festival in Ira, Kwara State, therefore, advised Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasak to establish a state security outfit to combat the growing influx of such criminals in the state.
