A member of a kidnapping gang operating in Ekiti State has been gunned down by operatives of the the Ekiti State Security Joint Task Force in his attempt to pick ransom while the security team rescued Kidnappers’two captives.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Police Command in the state, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed this in a statement on Thursday, noted that the Kidnapper met his dead end when the security team laid an ambush for him and his gang at the point of payment of N2.1million ransom for an abducted victim.

Other sources said that at this juncture, the security personnel gave the Kidnappers hot chase of their life after collecting the money and in the process, shot one of them dead.

Abutu recalled that the gang had kidnapped two persons and demanded a ransom of N2 million to enable their captives regain freedom.

“But the security operatives got to know about the abduction and set trap for the criminals and gave them a hot chase in the process of picking up the ransom of N2 million they had demanded on Wednesday.

“The kidnappers were chased up to Eruku in Kwara State, where one of them was shot dead during a shootout that ensued after the security team caught up with them.

“The corpse of the kidnapper, as well as all the exhibits recovered, were handed over to the nearby military checkpoint for onward transmission to the Ekiti State Police Command, while the security operatives continued with their operation,” he said.

According to the Command’s spokesman, the team comprised personnel of the Nigerian Army, police, Amotekun Corps, local hunters and vigilantes.

Items recovered from the kidnappers, according to Abutu, include: one AK 47 rifle with 25 live rounds of ammunition, a cutlass, two mobile phones, owned by the victims and N210,000.

He expressed the commitment of the team to continue the search for other fleeing members of the gang and make they face Justice for their crime.
