Kidnapped Niger traditional ruler regains freedom

The kidnapped District Head of Wawa in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger state, Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed Aliyu, (Ki Ali the 11), has regained freedom after spending 47 days with his abductors.

Aliyu, a second class traditional ruler,abducted from his palace, first week of September,re-united with family and subjects Tuesday night amidst tears, hugs and celebrations by the community with gratitude to Almighty Allah for bringing him back alive.

Though looking very frail and relaxed, a source from Borgu confirmed to our correspondent that the district head was tortured, insulted,and also went through other forms of mistreatment from the abductors.

According to the source, the Second Class traditional ruler,however, describ his travails as predestined by Almighty Allah, adding that his bitter experience, adding that he took that in good faith and grateful to Allah for sparing his life.

While expressing appreciation to all those who contributed financially and in any other form to ensure his release, the District Head was particular about the support of Niger state government, led by Alhaji Abubarkar Sani Bello.

“I wish to express my gratitude to the state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello and member representing Borgu Local Government Area in State House of Assembly, Hon. Bala Mohammed Abba, Borgu Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Suleiman Yumu and all those who contributed, both morally, spiritually and financially towards my freedom,”he said.

Members of the community, whose joy know no bounds, also expressed happiness and gratitude to God for the safe return of their District Head,hale and hearty and prayed for an end to all forms of security threat that had made victims become refugees in their own land.

Though the sum paid as ransom for the release of Aliyu was not made public, due to the state government’s stance on not paying ransom to armed bandits, our Correspondent learnt that monies were contributed to buy freedom for the District Head.
