Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has urged judges in the state to administer justice with erudition and the fear of God.
The governor gave the advice on Thursday when he sworn in the state Chief Judge, Justice Richard Olorunfemi and the President, Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Isiaka Momoh-Jimoh in Lokoja.
The Reporters reports that the governor was represented at the oath taking ceremony by his Deputy, Chief Edward Onoja while the two sworn jurists had earlier been confirmed for their appointments by the state House of Assembly.
Bello expressed confidence in the ability of Justices Olorunfemi and Momoh-Jimoh to provide excellent leadership for the Judiciary and the state in general.
The Governor noted with delight that with the positive cordial relationship existing among the three Arms of Government, there had been multiple successions into the Judicial Arm since the passage of the late Justice Nasir Ajanah more than a year ago.
He added that each time succession happened, the state government always respect the legal and seniority principles set by the Constitution and the Judiciary, by refraining from interfering with existing hierarchies or organograms.
Bello cited the March 26 and 2nd of August 2, 2021 when the state government administered the Oath of Office to the two Lordships respectively into their offices in Acting capacity, to butress his point.
He noted that the ease to with which two Justices scaled through all the processes-screening and confirmation by the Kogi State House of Assembly, confirmed that his administration’s faith in them was not misplaced.
According to him, the state is indeed,fortunate to have found worthy incumbents for these two most critical offices in its Administration of Justice.
He added that the two Justices were persons very well known and possessed the education, experience and above all, character to discharge their duties effectively, efficiently and with the fear of Almighty God.
The governor, therefore,enjoined them to always to bring their considerable history,as experienced jurists to bear in the administration of justice.
Responding on behalf of his colleague,Justice Olorunfemi, assured the state of utmost discharge of their duties to ensure quick dispensation of justice as well as make the state proud.
