Members of the Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council, on Sunday, turned enmasse and joyous to St.Joseph’s Catholic Church, Awka to join their two members: Mr and Mrs Chris Obileri who dedicated their set of twins after 13 years of marriage.
Our Correspondent reports that Chris,who works with Radio Nigeria,Purity FM while Ngozi is with Anambra Broadcasting Service(ABS), got married on December 28, 2007.
In his sermon at the occasion, Reverend Father Kelvin Okeke, who commended the couple for presenting their children to God as a mark of appreciation for His blessings, urged Christians to strive to become Christlike and put their trust in God always.
“l am happy that God answered them, I advise waiting couples to emulate their attitude to life and faith in God,” he said.
He called on politicians to make the life of Jesus Christ the bedrock of their leadership and aspiration, reminding them that Jesus was humble to serve the people who he led during his time on earth.
The cleric said that the Obileris were known for their professional enthusiasm as media personalities, adding that such virtue spoke volumes as to why so many media practitioners across the other media houses turned up for the event.
Mr Francis Ekpone, the Acting Chairman of NUJ said the ceremony was worthwhile and commended the couple for living in peace and waited on God to bless them with children, after 13 years of waiting for such joyous moment.
Ekpone urged other journalists waiting for the fruit of the womb to emulate the patience and love exibited by the blessed couple during their trying period, and be consistent in their prayer.
“ I congratulate the couple for their strong trust in God and understanding to be united while praying for the fruit of the womb, ever since their marriage. God will provide wealth to care for these children,” he said.
Mr Gab Okpalaeze, Director of News and Current Affairs of ABS, described the event as a worthwhile, a thing to thank God for,adding that the perseverance of the couple was worth emulating.
“It is a thing of great joy and a proof of faith in God,” he said.
Okpalaeze said that the couple carried out their job optimally, adding that they never showed that they were yet to have children in their marriage for such a long rime.
Mr Henry Nwasike, former Chairman of the union,who urged the couple not relent in showing the love that held them together for years,prayed God to provide them with all needed for the training of the twins.
Responding on behalf of the family,Ngozi said that she dedicated her life to God, having enjoyed great relief from the gift of children He gave her.
“I am so thrilled with the number of people that turned out to celebrate with me for the gift of my children, the joy of being a mother is indescribable,”dhe said.
She commended her husband for the trust and love showed her during the trying years when people thought there was no possibility of conceiving for her again.
Many members of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association, Awka branch, where Chris belongs to, also joined other members of the society, far and near to rejoice with the couple.
