Diaspora Mega City Will Create 3m jobs–FHA boss

As all hands are deck to reduce the high rate of unemployment in Nigeria,Senator Gbenga Ashafa, the Managing Director, Federal Housing Authority (FHA) was optimistic that the Diaspora Mega City Housing Project, when completed, would create about 3 million jobs for Nigerians.

Senator Ashafa disclosed this when he visited Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) in her office in Abuja, according to a release signed by Gabriel Odu of the Media and Public Relations and Protocols Unit
NIDCOM in Abuja and a copy available to The Reporters,an online publication on Tuesday.

The Managing Director explained that the Project was expected to have a multiplier effects with over 17,000 housing units of different models that would create limitless value chain and opportunities.

The FHA MD commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his thoughtfulness and wisdom in creating a conducive environment for the Diaspora Nigerians to have a roof over their heads, being fast- tracked by the push and drive of the NIDCOM boss.

Receiving Ashafa and his entourage, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa Chairman/ CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission,described Ashafa’s visit as” historic.”

According to her,the event marks the begining of the process of having a Diaspora City within the Federal Capital Territory that Nigerians in the Diaspora,wherever they were, could be proud to own a home in their own country”

She added that the mega city project would make the Diaspora to invest wisely, get results and prevent them from the excessive loss and agony they usually experience through third party transactions.

The NiDCOM Boss expressed optimism that the younger generation of Diaspora would be happy to key into the project.

Odu said the highpoint of the visit was the inauguration of a tripartite committee, expected to submit its report within four weeks.

The Diaspora City Project, a tripartite agency collaboration comprising of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), situated in Maitama 2, with over 675 hectares of land in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
